Random Art around Waco Installment #2 by Jim McKeown

Painted in 1888 while he was at Arles, “Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh has become one of the most recognized works of art in the world.  Although Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, his influence remains enormous. From Don McLean’s song ‘Starry, Starry Night’ (based on the painting), to the endless number of merchandise products featuring this image, it is nearly impossible to avoid this amazing painting — even if for some inexplicable reason you wanted to avoid it!

As a school project, students from Live Oak Classical School in Waco painted this version on a building at 8th between Washington and Columbus.   Here is a photograph of the mural:

And here is a photo of the original painting:

If you see a work of art on public display, send me the location, and I will feature it here.

  1. Excellent! I enjoy the art that pockets the streets of downtown. I’m especially interested in the vintage signs from years past. Historical markers for an economy that once was.

  2. This is on 10th street, not 8th.
